Abstract

Presbyopia is a condition in which the ability of the eyes to focus gradually declines with age, resulting in decreased near vision. The most mainstream treatment for presbyopia is the combination of phacoemulsification and implantation of an intraocular lens( IOL). Commonly used IOLs in clinical practice include monofocal lenses (MIOLs), multifocal lenses (MfIOLs), extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOLs, and accommodating lenses (AIOLs), which can improve patients’ postoperative visual acuity and visual quality to a certain extent. Presbyopia patients are increasingly opting to have functional IOLs implanted, and cataract surgery has progressed from straightforward vision restoration surgery to more complex refractive surgery. This review will introduce the design principles, characteristics, and clinical application effects of newly launched presbyopia-correcting IOLs both domestically and internationally.
